First Aid Refresher Training
MINISTRY OF HEALTH APPROVED FIRST AID REFRESHER TRAINING
Definition and Purpose
First Aid Refresher Training is mandatory for individuals who have previously completed the 16-hour Basic First Aid Training and possess a Ministry of Health-approved "First Aider Identity Card." The training's purpose is to refresh their knowledge and skills, ensure compliance with current medical practices, and, crucially, maintain the legal validity of their certificate.
Legal Term and Obligation
-
Validity Period: The First Aider Certificate and Identity Card are valid for 3 years.
-
Training Deadline: It is mandatory to complete the Refresher Training within a maximum of 3 (three) months following the expiration date of the certificate.
-
Certificate Status: If the training is not completed within the specified period (3 years + 3 months), the documents and the "First Aider" status are considered invalid. These individuals must then enroll in and complete the full 16-hour Basic First Aid Training again to regain their certification.
Training Content and Duration
-
Duration: The Refresher Training is conducted for half the duration of the Basic Training, totaling 8 hours (typically 1 day).
-
Content: All topics covered in the Basic First Aid Training (Basic Life Support, bleeding, injuries, loss of consciousness, etc.) are reviewed theoretically and practically, with an emphasis on current updates and techniques.
Certification Process
-
Examination: Unlike the Basic First Aid Training, there is no mandatory formal written or practical qualification exam at the end of the Refresher Training (some centers may use short tests for assessment).
-
Renewal: For trainees who attend the program, the Provincial Health Directorate approves the submission of the expired First Aider Identity Cards and Certificates, and the validity period of the documents is extended for another 3 years.
